David Noer

OD PIONEER | AUTHOR | RESEARCHER | CONSULTANT

Dr. Noer is an educator, author, researcher, speaker, and consultant. He has written six books, and many academic and popular articles and book chapters. His work is centered on helping both organizations and individuals cope with change and transition in healthy, productive, and profitable ways. His speaking and consulting focuses on leading organizations through downsizing, change and transition. 

He has a particular interest in global business leadership and cross-cultural human resource strategy having resided and worked in both Australia and Western Europe. He served as a consultant to the top executives of Saudi Aramco and spent significant time over several years in Saudi Arabia.     

His academic research interests include downsizing recovery, cross-cultural leadership, executive coaching, and organizational development. He developed the capstone course in Elon’s MBA program, and taught courses in responsible leadership and advanced organizational behavior at the undergraduate level. As a result of his research and publication record he received the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business Dean’s award for excellence in scholarship. In recognition of his contributions for advancing the science and practice of organization development, he received the Organization Development Network’s 2018 Communicating OD Knowledge Award.

He received a BA from Gustavus Adolphus College and an MS in Organizational Development from Pepperdine University. He earned a Doctorate in Business Administration with a concentration in Organizational Behavior and a supporting field of Executive Mental Health from George Washington University. He is an honorary Sr. Fellow with The Center for Creative Leadership, Professor Emeritus at Elon University, has served as a member of the governing board of the Organizational Development Network, and was editor of the journal, O.D. Practitioner
